Things to See & Do in the West Midlands
The West Midlands has a rich and varied history, that has left a multitude of places to discover.
If history is your thing, then mount your steed (or car if you prefer) and head for Warwick, Dudley or Kenilworth, as these locations all boast magnificent castles to explore. Warwick Castle is a fully immersive medieval experience with live action battles, bird of prey shows, characters and the firing of the mighty trebuchet, they really bring this location to life!
The picturesque town of Stratford-Upon-Avon is birthplace to perhaps the region’s most famous resident - William Shakespeare. Stratford is home to several properties connected to the playwright, these include his birthplace, his bride, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and his mother’s farm. Shakespeare’s plays and many other works are performed by the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company in three local theatres.
The Black Country Living Museum in Dudley is an amazing accomplishment that takes the visitor back in time on the very site of the world’s first industrial landscape. The scale of this open-air village is astonishing and is bought to life by characters, buildings, transport a mine!
For fun-seekers the West Midlands has plenty to entertain, including two major theme parks Drayton Manor and Alton Towers, whilst wildlife parks such as West Midlands Safari Park and Dudley Zoological Gardens are home to many rare breeds. If nature is what you seek, then you shall find that in the West Midlands also, the area has many beautiful areas to enjoy including Sandwell Valley Country Park, Cannock Chase and The Trentham Estate.
The West Midlands has an esteemed reputation as a place of makers and creators – a visit to the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery, Red House Glass Cone, Ironbridge Gorge, Walsall Leather Museum or Mac Birmingham will show you why this status is wholly deserved.
