See the stunning Monarch Caterpillar transform into a Butterfly!

Watching the stunning Monarch caterpillar transform into a butterfly is just one of the amazing things to see at Stratford Butterfly Farm this summer!  Monarch caterpillars can be found in the ‘Discovery Zone’ where visitors can see every stage of the butterfly life cycle, from egg, to caterpillar, to chrysalis and finally to a winged adult butterfly.  

The large and brilliantly coloured Monarch butterfly is one of the most easily recognizable of the butterfly species. Originally from North America, they have two sets of wings and a wingspan of 3 to 4 inches. Their wings are deep orange with black borders and veins, and white spots along the edges. Monarch caterpillars are striped with yellow, black, and white bands, and reach lengths of two inches before metamorphosis.

Minibeast Metropolis also has a stunning new look featuring a 1,000-litre aquarium full of shimmering tropical fish, as well as displaying scorpions, spiders, frogs, and snakes. The Metropolis is also home to a Capricorn Beetle, an exceedingly rare species which has been extinct in the UK for hundreds of years!                                                                                                                                                                 

Jane Kendrick, Marketing Manager at the Stratford Butterfly Farm stated, “This summer come and enjoy the relaxing pleasure of walking amongst some of the world’s most stunning and colourful butterflies in a tropical rainforest setting, with fish-filled pools, splashing waterfalls and beautiful blooms. We have also reopened our outdoor gardens and the picnic tables and benches have been reinstated. Visitors can now enjoy our beautiful outside tranquil space which is perfect for eating an ice cream or chilled drink!”.

Even though many restrictions have been lifted, the Butterfly Farm is being cautious.  The one-way system remains in place and timed visits are maintained. Visitors will be clicked in, so numbers are always monitored. As a Covid Secure Environment, the Farm will continue with its enhanced cleaning regime, ensuring all areas are well ventilated and offering staff twice weekly lateral flow tests. Face-coverings are expected and recommended to be worn inside and staff will be wearing them in public areas.
