Beat the Street players are being invited to Go Wild over the next few days.

That’s the theme for the third week of the unique walking, riding and rolling competition, with players encouraged to explore their local parks, waterways and green spaces.

Children at participating primary schools have received an activity pack which contains Go Wild-themed challenges such as making a picture using leaves, pebbles, sticks and flowers.

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: “We’re delighted to support the Beat the Street programme and it’s great to see people out exercising and exploring new areas.

“It’s amazing how, normally, we tend to stick to the same tried and tested routes when we are going out for a walk or exercise, and the game has really opened up the idea of exploring our city, revealing new areas and parks we might not have known about, even if we’ve lived here for years.

“Beat the Street is a positive and community-focused way of encouraging people to get more active, by walking, cycling, rolling and wheeling and, of course, it’s more important than ever to get fit and healthy while we’re still living through the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Thousands of people are taking part in this year’s competition and it’s not too late join in the fun. Free game cards are available from various locations around Wolverhampton including WV Active leisure centres, West Park Tea Rooms, Northycote Farm Cafe, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, The Way Youth Zone, Central Library, Bantock Park Cafe, Sainsbury’s Local, Bridgnorth Road, Co-Op on Stafford Road and Griffiths Drive and Tesco Express on Penn Road.

Beat the Street is delivered by Intelligent Health with funding from the National Lottery via Sport England and forms a key part of the council’s Yo! Summer Festival, which is offering hundreds of events across the city, many free of charge, to keep children, young people and their families active and entertained throughout the school holidays – more details at www.yowolves.co.uk.
