Selina, the experience-led hospitality group targeting the modern nomadic traveller, has opened its doors with the launch of SELINA BIRMINGHAM in the heart of the city’s creative and historical Jewellery Quarter. Offering an eclectic range of vibrant spaces including a sociable lobby space, dedicated wellness area, coffee shop, cocktail bar and a Latin-American restaurant and wine bar, the property also features 39 uniquely designed private rooms, suites and shared rooms.
As the second UK location for the Latin-American start-up, the Jewellery Quarter’s rich heritage and fascinating history now serves as an urban hub for creative and artistic businesses; the perfect location for Selina Birmingham to offer a space for locals to showcase their masterpieces. With beautifully designed accommodation, excellent food, wellness and local experiences at its heart, Selina creates an electric atmosphere bringing together locals and visitors alike.
Designed to reflect Birmingham’s creative spirit, interior designer Lorna Keller worked closely with local artists and the community to source artwork and materials that represent and embrace the local talent of Birmingham. Each of the 39 rooms has been given a quirky Latin-American twist, offering something new and unique to the accommodation sector in the city.
With 132 beds in total in a range of categories including an airy loft, a suite, standard and micro-sized double rooms and community shared rooms for between three to fourteen guests – including a female-only option – prices start from £15 - £100 per person/per night, depending on the room category chosen.
With social spaces inherent in each of its properties, Selina will be hosting specially curated weekly programming, engaging workshops and unique pop-ups throughout the year.
The lobby area will be an exciting social space where guests can socialise and co-work against a backdrop of local art in its gallery space, with a coffee station available offering a range of light refreshments and snacks for people on the go. Alongside this is a cocktail bar which will offer a selection of delectable Latin-inspired cocktails accommodating those who would rather just sit back and relax.
Selina Birmingham is also excited to introduce our brand-new Latin-American restaurant, La Mariposa, a hidden gem in the Jewellery Quarter which will open at the end of the month. With Kray Treadwell at the helm who recently featured on the BBC’s Great British Menu, the restaurant is inspired by the vibrant streets of Cuba, and blends sun-bleached palettes with stunning floral and foliage displays to transport you to humid Havana nights. After kicking off with a diverse, healthy and delicious Latin themed breakfast, the restaurant then rolls on with an exquisite all-day menu encompassing a variety of Latin American dishes. Guests can enjoy dishes such as Sweet and spicy chicken thighs cooked on the BBQ served with paprika aioli and freeze dried sweetcorn, Feijoada - a Brazilian smoky bean soup made with spicy chorizo and butter beans cooked with goats cheese served with pan fried cod and Secreto Iberico - the secret cut of pork, ajo blanco, boqueron anchovies and crispy fried egg. Dishes will be paired with impeccable cocktails and fine wines.
Selina Birmingham will also open a romantic city garden which extends from the restaurant, where guests can enjoy a range of delicious cocktails amongst lush foliage and twinkling lanterns, surrounded by quirky local artwork.
Guests will additionally have access to an extensive communal kitchen and library space, which feeds down into the spacious activity centre. This impressive multi-layer space will double up to host an array of events throughout the year for guests and for hire, and features a panoramic balcony that showcases the city’s impressive skyline. Alongside the library sits a fully equipped cinema room and soft seating allowing guests to relax and unwind after a day of exploring what Birmingham has to offer.
The Jewellery Quarter is home to more than 500 jewellery retailers with the new Selina Birmingham, once occupying a former silversmiths where the original FA cup was made and Olympic medals. Teeming with art galleries, the area also consistently leads the way with trendy bars, independent restaurants, great speakeasies and creative spaces. Selina Birmingham sits right next to the neighbourhood’s centrepiece, St Paul’s Square, just minutes away from the cities three major train stations, New Street, Snow Hill and Moor Street. As well as the Metro that connects the city with the historical Black Country. Surrounded by offices, music venues and pubs, Selina Birmingham is the perfect place for locals and tourists alike.
